Discover the creative possibilities of mixed media by transforming your photographs into unique works of art. Whether you're an experienced artist or simply looking for a new way to work with your photos, you'll explore a variety of collage and image-transfer techniques that encourage experimentation and personal expression.
Using your own photographs as a starting point, you'll layer, cut, rearrange, and combine images to create original compositions. Along the way, you'll learn techniques including gel transfers, tape transfers, and solvent transfers while incorporating painted and collaged backgrounds. As you build each piece, you'll discover how combining images, textures, and words can create unexpected visual stories.
By the end of the workshop, you'll have completed an original mixed media collage while gaining a collection of techniques you can continue exploring in your own creative practice.
What to Bring:
Please bring a selection of your own printed photographs. A mix of color and black-and-white images is encouraged, though either is welcome. Both laser and inkjet prints work well, and matte paper is generally easier to use than glossy. Choose a variety of simple images as well as photographs with interesting elements that can be cut out and layered.
Experience Level:
No previous experience is necessary. This workshop is suitable for students ages 12 and up.
Materials:
Watercolor paper, adhesives, and all additional mixed media supplies are provided.
