Experience one of photography's earliest printing techniques in this beginner-friendly cyanotype workshop. Using sunlight, water, and light-sensitive iron salts, you'll make a beautiful 8" × 10" print while gaining an understanding of the fascinating process behind these iconic deep-blue images.

You'll prepare and apply a light-sensitive emulsion to paper, arrange objects to create a unique composition, and watch your print develop in the sunlight. Along the way, you'll learn about the history of cyanotypes, the science behind the process, and techniques for creating bold, eye-catching images.

By the end of the workshop, you'll have completed your own original cyanotype print and gained the knowledge and confidence to continue exploring this historic photographic process.

What to Bring:
All materials are provided, including cyanotype chemicals, printmaking paper, brushes, and work trays. A selection of objects will be available for creating your composition, but you're encouraged to bring your own interesting items such as leaves, lace, keys, feathers, tools, glassware, or other objects with distinctive shapes or translucent qualities.

Please wear clothing, shoes, or an apron that you don't mind getting wet or stained blue.

Experience Level:
No previous experience is necessary. This workshop is suitable for students ages 12 and up.
